Heat sink material:

Heat sink material refers to the specific material used by heat sink.The thermal conductivity of each material is different, arranged from high to low according to the thermal conductivity, respectively silver, copper, aluminum, steel.

The best solution is to use copper.Although aluminum is much cheaper, it is obviously not as hot as copper (which is only about 50 percent cheaper).

The common material of heat sink is copper and aluminum alloy, both of which have their advantages and disadvantages.

Copper has good thermal conductivity, but the price is expensive, the processing difficulty is higher, the weight is too big (many pure copper radiators have exceeded the CPU's weight limit), the heat capacity is small, and easy to oxidize.

Pure aluminum is too soft, can not be used directly, are used to provide enough hardness of aluminum alloy, aluminum alloy is cheap, light weight, but the heat conductivity is much worse than copper.

Processing and forming technology of heat sinks:

Aluminum extrusion technology is simply to heat the aluminum ingots to about 520~540℃ at high temperature, let the liquid aluminum flow through the groove extrusion die under high pressure, to make the heat sink initial embryo, and then cut and furrow the heat sink initial embryo and make the heat sink commonly seen.

The ease of implementation and relatively low equipment costs of aluminum extrusion have also made it widely used in the lower end of the market in previous years.

The commonly used aluminum-extrusion material AA6063 has good thermal conductivity (about 160~180 W/m.K) and processability.

Pure aluminum heat sinks

Pure aluminum heat sinks is the most common early radiator, its manufacturing process is simple, low cost, pure aluminum heat sinks still occupies a considerable part of the market.

In order to increase the heat dissipation area of fins, aluminum extrusion is the most commonly used processing method for pure aluminum radiators, and the main indexes for evaluating a pure aluminum heat sinks are the thickness of radiator base and pin-Fin ratio.

Pin refers to the height of the Fin of the radiator, while Fin refers to the distance between two adjacent fins.Pin-fin ratio is divided by Fin by the height of Pin (not including the thickness of the base). A larger Pin-Fin ratio means a larger effective heat dissipation area of the radiator, which means that the aluminum extrusion technology is more advanced.
